Lizabeth Moniz

Lizabeth Moniz has been a builder for most of her adult life. She began exploring structure and its limitations by building forts and hideaways in her family’s woods. Knowing from a young age that she wanted to build her own house, Lizabeth figured that she should start learning with that goal in mind. While getting her BFA, she worked in cabinet and custom furniture shops and then gleaned a wealth of knowledge by becoming a carpenter and building many other people’s homes. By later pursuing her MA in Landscape Design and Land Use Planning, she now also designs structures and landscapes as being integrated holistically and working together.

Having taught with many different organizations and schools, for a variety of populations, Lizabeth currently teaches timber framing classes in Central America, and classes in carpentry, tiny house design/build, woodworking, and permaculture at Yestermorrow Design/Build School. She is a self-employed carpenter and landscape designer. She can be found at www.flyingmammoths.com.

Lizabeth, along with her partner Skip, first built a cabin and then a house on land that they bought and now call home. Both dwellings are featured in the book “The House That Jill Built”.
